Very easy to set up and use and it works well. I made one change however. I have a large home with a guest house work shop etc so lots of extension phones. As set up when you answer the phone no one can get on an extension, but there is a simple fix. I bought a telephone pushbutton two line switch. This is a device with a telephone cord that plugs into the wall and it has two push buttons to select line one or line two if you have two telephone lines. I only have one line so line two is dead. I plug my telephone into the wall outlet along with the two line switch then the Catch-A-Call plugs into the two line switch. I use line one for getting on line, then when I get an incoming call I just push line two disconnecting the Catch-A-Call and computer, I can then pick up my phone or just let it ring all the extensions and let some one else get the call.
I bought one since I don't have DSL yet and am always online.
I plugged it in and tested it myself by calling myself repeatedly from the cell.
It works, period. Highly recommend one.
Should be given the "Invention Of The Year" award.

Ok, I have not ordered this yet, but I keep reading in the reviews on Amazon (for these HOLD ISP for phone call boxes) that people are glad they don't have to pay for 2 phone lines... but wish that this could also answer the call if they chose not to take it. well, Callwave and Pagoo do that stuff.. but they cost $5.00 or more a month.... and are not totally reliable.
*** PAY ATTENTION- I think this will work ***
I have dial up... and my family would hate that busy signal... so I got home voicemail for a few bucks a month for when I am online (ALL THE TIME!) and for when I don't want to switch over to the other line when on a call... either way it rings thru whether its a busy signal or a NO PICK UP call then it rings like 5 times and hits my voice mail.
NOW --- THINK ABOUT THIS.. if you have voicemail and hate jumping offline to see if someone calls... or are worried that you might miss an emergency call from your kid's school.. this can work!!!!
use the catch a call or Switchboard..etc... and if you do not answer IT SHOULD RING RIGHT THROUGH to voicemail!!!!!!
so no need to complain that you need it to answer a call.. if you have voicemail.. there ya go!
if not... it's cheaper to get this and home voicemail... IN THE LONG RUN.. than it is to buy PAGOO or ICM or Callwave... they have limited uses and the ones that offer the MOST... cost more and charge hidden airtime fees and some don't even give you the option to answer!
Works great with my cordless phone.... I dont know why the other person on this site says its not compatible with cordless phones. I have to say that I feel great knowing that I can be online and get a cll from my kids at school or my husband. Highly recommend this product.
If I can remember correctly this did what it was suppose do. I just wish the ring tone volume could've been lowered and I paid $50 for this when it first came out. Now if I could only find something to allow my fax machine to work with one line.
I've seen reviews that bash this product, but it's been great for me. Now we don't have to worry about missing a call from one of our kids when we're on line.
The necessary steps are (1)get call-waiting from your phone company, (2) hook up the product so the phone line goes from your wall to the device, to your computer and phone, (3) make sure your PC's "internet connections" are not set to disable call waiting. That's it. Then when you're on line, the device rings when a call comes in. Simple as that.
This is Perfect for people who go online sometimes, not all the time or if you don't have alot of phone calls, just a few important call and if your a buissness-type person. I got this for Christmas and it is perfect. I don't get alot of phone calls while I'm online. Sure I get kicked off after 30 seconds while I'm talking on the phone, but hey, I didn't miss any important phone calls and it's almost like I have DSL, except for the speed and the connecting. The another good thing is it doesn't affect the speed.
