With two cook settings, low and high, the pot can slow cook a wide variety of stews, roasts, and soups, recipes for which are included in the owner's guide. The glass lid, also dishwasher-safe, sends moisture back into the pot while at the same time allows contents to be viewed. The loop-style lid knob and improved sure-grip handles are heat resistant. Measuring 17 by 8 by 12 inches with a 40-inch power cord, the slow cooker is covered by a one-year warranty. --Ann Bieri
I didn't want all the bells and whistles offered on some more expensive crockpots...and this one is just right. I enjoy being able to turn it down to just "warm" while serving and I really enjoy the removeable stoneware crock. The dark colored crock always looks clean inspite of the inevitable baked on food stains crockpots get after a few uses. The brushed chrome makes it look very classy and expensive and the glass lid is a nice upgrade from my prior plastic lid. It's extremely roomy and great for a pot roast or whole chicken with the oval shape. I didn't feel all the programming options available on some units was necessary...my crockpot just cooks all day while I am at work, and it's ready to eat when I get home! I'm very happy with my purchase.
I've had good success in using this slow-cooker. The features I like:
*The glass lid makes it easy to see how the food is doing without letting the heat escape.
*The crock itself is a nice black color and is easy to keep in the fridge if you want to prepare ingredients the night before or keep leftovers in the same pot.
*The keep warm setting is great for serving food, especially at a party
*The outside is a nice looking brushed silver
I've used this pot when I'm away from home and haven't had any problems. I always follow a recipe's directions for the length of time to cook my meals, and I haven't had any problems with burning.
My only complaint is that the rubber ring used to keep the lid on when traveling broke after three uses, which was too bad, because it was a nice feature. However, it's not something I use very often, so I consider this a minor drawback.
I really like this crock pot,it heats really nicely and the interior comes out for easy cleaning and/or putting into the fridge. I would never turn this on and leave the house for the day though, both low and high settings get pretty hot.
I love the concept of being able to program my slow cooker, and it shut itself off when the cooking is done. However, with this model I have found that even the "warm" setting is extremely hot. So, even though it switches off, to the "warm" setting after the cooking time is over, it still continues to cook the food. My food sometimes turns out too dry or burnt unless I'm there to turn it off. Which defeats the purpose of a slow cooker, right? I never had poor results with my previous cooker which was also a Rival, just not this model and not programmable. I would not recommend this slow cooker if you plan on using it alot in situations where you won't be home to turn it off.
The one thing that I do like about this cooker is it's size. It is much larger than my previous slow cooker.
If you are just looking for a large cooker that looks nice and you will be home to monitor it, then this one will work just fine.
